Choosing the right neighbourhood

You may have heard the saying that real estate is about location, location, location. This could not be any further from the truth especially as you seek a residential property to settle into. Some property buyers tend to focus solely or mostly on the dwelling itself rather than the location it is positioned in. This is done based on the reasoning that one will spend most of the time indoors and fewer moments outside the home. In this blog article, we shall be discussing some important factors to consider when choosing the right neighbourhood for you.

Locality

One of the important factors with respect to your neighbourhood is the locality. The locality you choose will depend on preferences and budget. With respect to locality, there will be various preferences. Some people prefer the ones that are quieter where the hustle and bustle of everyday life seems to fade away. Individuals with these preferences would tend to seek areas that are away from centres, avoiding the influx of people and cars that are prevalent in these areas. On the other hand, there are those who tend to favour more popular locations, and may decide to opt for smaller properties simply because they find themselves in the area that they prefer.

Proximity

Another important factor to consider when purchasing property is the proximity to those areas that you deem as high priority. Is the property close to your workplace? Would you be comfortable with the daily commute that it will entail in traffic? Is the property close to the school where your children may be getting their education? Some may also prefer locations that are close to where they were brought up, being nearby to their parents for any support that would be needed. The same may apply to supermarkets and other essential shops. Do you deem close proximity to these as an absolute necessity? Irrespective of whether you deem this necessary or not, it will influence your decision as to which neighbourhood you will choose.

Past ownership

This is also something that as a property seeker you should look out for. When interest increases for a particular property, it makes sense to ask questions about past owners. A successive run of owners that have sold the property after just a few years is likely to raise questions regarding the neighbourhood. There may be issues which are not evident during the viewings but might cause problems as you are living within the dwelling, after you have settled in.
